forestry contracting

I offer a full range of forestry works - either in house or using skilled and reliable contractors.

Tree planting, deer fencing, weeding, path construction, maintenance and more

I like to take a hands-on approach when it comes to my forest management work. It keeps me fit and it affords me greater control over the quality of work that my customers entrust to me.

Working at the sharp end of forest management in this manner also ensures that I stay conversant with good practice and helps hugely when it comes to estimating costs and being realistic in my proposals when I am working from the comfort of my desk.

However, most work requires an element of external labour and, like most forestry consultants and forest management companies, this is subcontracted out to a third party.

I believe that my reputation is only as good as my last job so I have worked on maintaining relationships with only those contractors who I can trust to work in a timely and effective manner while delivering good value for money.

They may not always be the cheapest contractors out there, but I have come to believe that the cheapest does not always provide best value for money - especially if the work is so bad that someone else has to return at a later date to put things right or, worse still, grant payments are withheld pending remedial action.

Here are some of the forestry works that I provide directly or by using contracted labour:

  • Chainsaw work: including tree felling, firewood processing and rhododendron removal.

  • Weeding: by hand, using tools or using approved and safe pesticides.

  • Tree care and arboriculture: including controlled tree felling, tree climbing, pruning, crown reduction, de-limbing, hedge strimming, coppicing.

  • Mechanised felling: using specialist and custom plant.

  • Timber extraction: including mechanical extraction by forest machines both large and small, extraction by horse, extraction from sensitive habitats.

  • Tree planting: including new woodlands, restocking, trees in shelters, landscaping around developments, hedges, specimen trees, replacing losses (beating up).

  • Pest control: including chemical treatments of forest pests (i.e. Large pine weevil), Phytopthora ramorum.

  • Fertilising trees: including supply of materials and hand application.

  • Forest fencing: including new deer or stock fencing and the upgrade of existing fences.

  • Paths and forest roads: construction and maintenance of footpaths, internal tracks and forest roads.

  • Much more.

All works are fully insured and undertaken in a manner that is safe, follows good practice and in accordance with the regulatory framework.
